FM: Belarus has no plans to slow down WTO accession talks

MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) In 2017 Belarus considerably intensified the talks on joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) and is intended to keep the pace, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said in an interview to the Russian newspaper Izvestia, BelTA has learned.

After a twelve-year hiatus, we held two meetings of the WTO working group on Belarus' accession in Geneva in January and September.

Belarus, Georgia to develop cooperation in trade, agriculture, tourism

MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) Belarus and Georgia will develop cooperation in trade, agriculture and tourism, Belarus Deputy Prime Minister Mikhail Rusy told the media after the meeting of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Georgian commission on economic cooperation on 31 January, BelTA has learned.

Belarus-Georgia trade and economic relations and cooperation in the humanitarian, cultural and tourism sectors have been vibrant in the past two years.

Some 10,500 domestic observers accredited for municipal elections in Belarus

MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) The election commissions have accredited 10,500 domestic observers for the elections of the 28th convocation municipal councils of deputies, BelTA learned from Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina on 23 January.

The Belarusian national youth union BRSM, the public association Belaya Rus, and the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans have the largest numbers of accredited observers.

Belarusian Belkommunmash to sell fast trams to Russian Volgograd

MOSCOW, 18 January (BelTA) The Belarusian mechanical engineering company Belkommunmash has won a tender to sell ten modern low-floor trams for fast tram lines to the Russian city of Volgograd, representatives of the embassy of Belarus in Russia told BelTA.

The contract with the Volgograd city administration will be signed soon. It will stipulate the schedule for delivering the trams to a large mass transit system operator in the Russian city.

Belarus economy expected to grow in 2018

MINSK, 4 January (BelTA) The Belarusian economy is expected to grow in 2018, Belarus Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

The economy should be growing. The GDP is expected to increase by 3.5% in 2018. In 2017, we expect the growth at 2%-2.1%, Andrei Kobyakov said.

He stressed that the challenges that lie ahead in 2018 are objectively more complex and bigger than those that were resolved in 2017.

IMF: Belarusian economy is recovering thanks to more effective economic measures

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) finished the latest round of Article IV consultations with Belarus on 13 December, BelTA has learned.

The IMF statement, which was released as a result of the consultations, reads: The Belarusian economy is recovering after two years of recession, helped by better policies, a more favorable external environment, and stronger domestic demand conditions.

Cui Qiming: Chinese cultural center in Minsk is ideal for cultural exchange between two countries

MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) The Chinese cultural center in Minsk is a platform for cultural exchange between China and Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Cui Qiming said at a function to mark the 1st anniversary of the center on 12 December, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat noted that on 10 May 2015 the Belarusian-Chinese intergovernmental agreement on mutual establishment of cultural centers was signed in the presence of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and China President Xi Jinping.

Belarus, Latvia sign military cooperation plan for 2018

MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) The heads of the Defense Ministries of Belarus and Latvia have signed the military cooperation plan for 2018, BelTA learned from the Defense Ministry of Belarus.

Latvian Defense Minister Raimonds Bergmanis met with Belarusian Defense Minister Andrei Ravkov during his official visit to Belarus on 5 December. The parties discussed regional security and bilateral military cooperation.

Belarusian, Russian bike manufacturers to team up

MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) The Belarusian company OOO MotoVeloZavod and the Russian company OOO Velomotors (Bryansk) intend to set up a joint venture. The news was released by MotoVeloZavod Director Nikolai Ladutko before a seminar on problems, prospects, and innovations in forming the common science and technology space in the Union State of Belarus and Russia on 28 November, BelTA has learned.

Belarusian MPs eager to work hard with Georgian parliament

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) Members of the Belarusian parliament are intent on tight cooperation with the Georgian parliament. Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko made the statement as he met with Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze on 20 November, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Andreichenko noted the visit of the Georgian delegation was important because it was the first parliamentary visit of such a magnitude in the history of the bilateral relations.
